MN Twins return to the Metrodome on Monday

While most Twins fans have been sitting on their couches screaming at the TV watching more pitching issues play out on the road, the staff at the Metrodome has been gearing up for a two series stretch at home for that starts Monday. The Twins will be back at home for a week which is more time then they have spent in the Metrodome in almost a month, which means that Twins fans will be scooping up Twins Tickets and packing the seats to eat Dome Dogs and hopefully watch happy ending baseball.

The Twins kick off their home stretch with a 3 game series against the Chicago White Sox that runs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with all night games. The Twins and the Ticket-takers at the dome have Thursday off before staring a second 3 game series against the Los Angeles Angels.

If you have been missing the Metrodome as much as I have lately, not only for the Dome magic but also just because it feels like home... don't miss your chance to see the Twins play at home next week!

Metrodome Magic wears a little thin

Inside the HHH Metrodome for a Twins game
The Curse of the Great Bambino. The of Billy the Goat. The Curse of Captain Eddie... most baseball fans recognize these to be the prominent curses or jinxes that keep teams from winning and add an element of fate to every game.

The curse that most people don't talk about but several teams acknowledge is the Metrodome Magic. Metrodome Magic refers to the fact that most teams find it hard to play in the dome. Some blame the noise of the fans, some blame the wall, many blame the fact that the Twins seem to always be on top of their A-game at home.

A prime example of the Metrodome Magic comes with the Chicago White Sox who had lost 10 of their last 11 games at the Metrodome, despite the fact that they had been playing better than the Twins. Then on Saturday the Metrodome Magic must have been on the fritz because the Sox pulled out a 8-7 win against the Twins in the 9th inning. The game was a great one and the entire crowd there sat on the edge of their dome seats waiting to see how it would all go down.

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said after the game on Saturday, ''I wish somebody else would give [the Twins] credit [besides] me because it sounds like I'm pulling for them. But those guys show up every day, and you have to beat them. You have to play all nine innings and get 27 outs. They make you work. ... They're not streaky. They don't give up. They get good at-bats no matter what the score is. That's why they're always in the pennant race.''

So perhaps we shouldn't give up on the Metrodome Magic just yet, and maybe we should give the actual team so credit for their performance. In which case I would like to propose chalking Saturday up to a fluke and moving forward. (but just in case there was dome magic and it is gone, i suggest bringing good ju-ju into the dome this week).

Twins All You Can Eat Ticket Seats Seem To Trump Recession Woes

Metrodome's famous Dome Dog and chips, my favorite Dome-Food Much of the news this summer has centered around the recession and how to save a penny or two. However, anyone who has been to the Metrodome on a Tuesday recently has noticed that despite having to spend a little more initially, the All-You-Can-Eat-Seats have been filled and Twins fans seem to feel that they are getting the better end of the stick.

In a recent article on the Associated Press, fans told a reporter that they were trying to beat the system. Twins fans liked that in an economy that seemed to be cutting back on just about everything the Metrodome was opening its concession stand doors and saying take as much as you want. One fan told the AP, "I just like the idea that, because food is so expensive, I can come and, like, stick it to the system," Retamal said. "You know what I mean? I feel like I can even things out a little bit, just like baseball evens everything out."

The Metrodome may be on to something, on All-You-Can-Eat Tuesday sections 232 and 233 are turned into the "special seats" where Twins Tickets go for $34 instead of $22 but Twins fans can eat an unlimited amount of hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, pretzels, soda and water during a 3.5 hour span. The deal stops at 9:00 p.m. regardless of what inning the game is in and a Twins-Metrodome spokesperson said that because the deal doesn't included beer or waffle cones (two big ticket items for the dome) they are doing alright, but the deal he said is really about the fans, its great for them. With some quick mental math, it is true that even fans of a less hardy stock who can merely eat two hot dogs and a soda have paid for the difference and then some.

The Metrodome isn't the only field offering these grub-fest tickets, stadiums in San Diego, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh are following suit and giving fans a chance to eat the concession stand out of food, though most sports fans realistically eat a couple of hot dogs a soda and call it a day. Regardless of weather your goal is 30 hot-dogs or 3, it seems to this Metrodome lover that in a day and age where everything seems to be about bad financials, the Metrodome is giving back to its patrons and Twins fans are taking advantage.

The next all you can eat night is Tuesday July 28th against the White Sox

Celebrate the 4th at the Metrodome

If you call yourself a Twins fan at all then you know we have been on the road for the past 10 days... 10 good days, the Twins may even have even figured out how to play on the road.

However, like any good Twins fan you also know that Twins baseball just is not the same without a Domedog in hand and Circle me Bert. With that said, the Twins are returning to the Metrodome this weekend for a 4th of July weekend series against the Detroit Tigers, who have not had the best success on the road this season either, hopefully they continue to struggle on the road and the Metrodome Magic works for the Twins.

On a holiday that is all about American Pride, Red White and Blue Clothing, and American food it only seems fitting that we as Minnesotans do the patriotic thing and put on our Twins jerseys (color appropriate, naturally) and head out to the Metrodome to cheer our Twins on!
